Duties & Responsibilities

Most of the duties of the treasurer are regulated and dictated by the State of Michigan.

Some of the duties and responsibilities of the Whitney Township Treasurer include:

  • Receive and take charge of all funds belonging to the Township or which are required by law to be paid into the Township treasury
  • Pay over and account for the funds according to law or Township board decision
  • Collect real property, personal property, and mobile home specific taxes and disburse those taxes to the appropriate taxing entities on a timely basis
  • Collect and perform jeopardy assessments on personal property taxes
  • Invest Township funds in approved investment vehicles
  • Maintain accurate records of all income, receipts, and disbursements
  • Deposit all receipts in the Township depository or depositories

Tax Payments

Payments can be sent to the hall at 1515 N Huron, Tawas City, MI 48763.  Summer taxes are September 15th and Winter taxes are February 14th and people can pay their taxes at the Township Hall until February 28th and then they get turned over to the County March 1st.

Dog Licenses

Dog licenses are only available from December 1st to February 28th at the Township and then must be picked up at the County Treasurer’s office any other time.
